About

I was first licensed as KI4SZJ in 2007.  I got my no-code General class license in 2007 and then my no-code Amateur Extra class license in 2008. I applied for a vanity in late 2008 and was granted N2XU in January of 2009.  Why a 2 call? Because I’m from 2-land. In 2010 I began studying CW and was told by my instructor that I would have passed Element 1 (the code test) by my instructor (AC5LT) had the FCC still required it so now I don’t consider myself a no-code extra, but I’m sure there are many out there who would disagree.

I am primarily interested in emergency communications aspects of ham radio. Primarily low-power digital modes, JS8, PSK-31, and Winlink.  AC5LT has mentioned to me a desire to build a digital club in the local area but I’m of the firm belief that we could make it part of our current club structure.

Radios and devices that I have in my shack include the Yaesu FTDX-1200 and FTM-100D. I also have an Icom ID-4100 D-Star radio.

I have a Computer Science degree and I test software for a living.
